Francine Stock considers some of 2005's big screen hits with the expert opinion of Nick James, editor of Sight and Sound magazine and star contributions from Cate Blanchett ('The Aviator'), Nicole Kidman ('The Interpreter'), Dustin Hoffman ('Meet the Fockers'), Liam Neeson ('Kinsey'), Ian McDiarmid ('Star Wars: Episode III'), Oliver Hirschbiegel (director of 'Downfall'), Neil Marshall (director of 'The Descent') and Dame Judi Dench ('Mrs Henderson Presents').
Nick James' films of the year were 'Brokeback Mountain', 'A History of Violence' and 'King Kong'.
Also discussed were, 'Sin City', 'The Beat That My Heart Skipped', 'Innocence', 'Pride and Prejudice', 'Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit', 'The Constant Gardener', 'Nanny McPhee', 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' and 'Yes'.
Films to look out for in 2006 include 'A Cock and Bull Story', 'Munich', 'Good Night and Good Luck', 'Flight 93' and 'Hidden' (Cache). |
