Nicole Kidman
Francine Stock meets the Australian born actress Nicole Kidman, whose films include The Hours, Cold Mountain and Moulin Rogue. In her new film The Interpreter, a thriller by director Sidney Pollack, Kidman plays a United Nations translator who claims to have overheard a death threat. Sean Penn plays the federal agent assigned to protect her.
The Interpreter, certificate 12A, is in cinemas now.
Iranian Cinema
Filmmaker Mark Cousins and film distributor Sanaz Etabarian discuss Iranian film as a new film from Iran gets its first UK cinema release. The Lizard is a comedy abouta convict who breaks jail and goes on the run dressed as a mullah.
The Lizard (Marmoulak) is at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London from 22 April to 12 May 2005.
The Abbas Kiarostami retrospective is at the National Film Theatre in London 28 April to 31 May 2005. This is part of a London-wide Kiarostami celebration organised by the Iran Heritage Foundation.
Channel 4's Cinema Iran season runs from 3 May to 23 June 2005. It includes Mark Cousins' documentaries Cinema Iran (9 May at 8pm) and On the Road with Kiarostami (9 May at 11:30pm).
The Searchers
Sir Christopher Frayling, rector of The Royal College of Art, examines the legacy of John Ford's 1956 western The Searchers. In the film John Wayne plays Ethan Edwards, a man tracking down his niece who's been abducted by Comanche Indians.
The Searchers is on ITV1 Sunday 17 April at 1pm. It will be released on DVD on 6 June 2005, certificate U.
