Francine Stock talks to Ken Loach the director of Kes, My Name is Joe and Carla's Song. In 1995 he made Land and Freedom, a powerful period epic about the Spanish Civil War which is being released on DVD for the first time. The film is set in the 1930s and follows a young unemployed Liverpudlian, played by Ian Hart, who joins the fight against fascism in Spain.
Land and Freedom, certificate 15, is available now on DVD. Ken Loach's new film Tickets is due for release this autumn.
British Silent Cinema
A preview of a festival of British cinema from before 1930 with festival director Laraine Porter and Briony Dixon, from the British Film Institute. Festival highlights include early works from directors such as Anthony Asquith and Alexander Korda and a presentation of Mitchell and Kenyon films.

Film historian David Thomson re-examines Vincente Minnelli's 1970 musical On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. The film stars Barbara Streisand as Daisy Gamble, a Brooklyn girl who regresses under hypnosis to a racy regency past.
On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, certificate U, is scheduled to be released on DVD in June 2005.
