Born and raised in Northumberland, Cal comes from a farming family that has worked the land since 1805 - a heritage that underpins his deep respect for produce, sustainability and sense of place.
Cal entered the hospitality industry at just 16 and trained in some of the country’s most respected kitchens, including Rogan & Co, before spending five years as head pastry chef at the Michelin-starred Forest Side. It was here that Cal refined his farm to fork approach and developed a meticulous understanding of flavour and seasonality.
In May 2021, Cal and his partner Siân opened Restaurant Pine, which quickly established itself as one of the UK’s most exciting dining destinations, earning a Michelin Star and a Michelin Green Star within its first year.
Cal’s menu created for the competition is packed full of fun, creativity and his unique take on the theme. He celebrates North East legends, including Ridley Scott.
