Really here in real life: Charli XCX and Maisie Williams on filming performances

2 June 2016

Was Adele right to scorn someone for filming her gig? Maisie Williams & Charli XCX discuss...

Actress Maisie Williams and pop singer Charli XCX talk to Annie Mac about filming at gigs.

Annie Mac got Charli XCX and Game of Thrones and Dr Who star Maisie Williams in to talk tough in The Forum

Annie started by asking Charli and Maisie about Adele's anti-filming outburst at a concert, when she asked a woman to take down a tripod and watch the concert instead of recording it - is that too far?

Charli said there are different contexts for different artists. "In a club environment it kind of becomes part of the show, like this new element to the crowd. Whereas it used to be the lighter, now it's the phone - or the iPad, which is a little extreme!"

Maisie said: "Being part of the generation who's addicted to their phones, I can't knock it!" But equally, "Being a short person at a gig, all I used to be able to see was heads and now all I can see is phones!"

"Watching Britney Spears never made me want to take my clothes off!" - Maisie Williams & Charli XCX on women in music videos

Actress Maisie Williams and pop singer Charli XCX discuss Lethal Bizzle's new video.

We don't have to take our clothes off - or do we? Annie asked Maisie and Charli about Lethal Bizzle's new, err, booty-full music video for 'Wobble'.

Charli said she loves "a juicy butt" but that arguably the video could be seen as a male artist objectifying women or using them as props.

Maisie said, "When I was younger and a lot more of a marshmallow in terms of watching television and things just getting soaked up, watching Britney Spears' 'Toxic' video never made me want to take my clothes off."
