Diplo on the other side of the mic
Clara chats with Diplo about his relentless work ethic and making music that shocks.
"I just thought he was a genius" - Diplo on working with Justin Bieber
Clara said "You put this music out with him at a time when I think a lot of people were thinking 'OK, party done'"
But Diplo was keen to defend Biebs; "It must have been really tough for him. I worked with him before a couple years back on some stuff for the third album. And I just thought he was just a genius anyway. Just such a great young kid, great singer, great attitude - beyond all the media stuff. So when I had the opportunity to do the song with Jack U, I had a relationship with them and Skrillex and they had nothing to lose so I could just say 'let's try this.'
"So the timing was really good. And maybe in time people will forget that he had that kind of time where he was down. But I just thought when we were doing that project it really needed a song that was going to shock people. Whether it was good or bad - but me and Skrillex, you can't even really write that in an A&R meeting."

"The little monkey with the other monkey fixing his hair" - Diplo on the best emoji for a DM Slide
Diplo said he got in touch with Madonna to work with her via Snapchat- "Some emoji placements - like, some really nice ones. Snapchat has those new ones that are really working out right now. The little monkey with the other monkey fixing his hair, and then there's the 'hey, what's up, hello' giraffe and those are really starting to work."
"Even if I get sick of one project I'll be right back with another"
Diplo talked about his intimidating workload:
"I like to just chill and work on music. Summertimes are so busy - but I'm flying on an airplane in like an hour, so I'll be sleeping and that's my time.
You just try to stay busy and I think I've been really lucky because I've been able to put myself across these three different projects just doing the thing of Diplo, doing Jack U and doing Major Lazer. So if you get sick of one project I just come back with my new project, so I'm kind of cheating a little by having three projects.
It's also good cus I can't get bored - cus artists get stuck in a cycle, like how many time's Taylor Swift gonna have to play 'Shake It Off? And she's like 'uuuuh' and I can just play this other thing."
