Lesson 16
At the hospital

Ghufran: It was about 5 o'clock in the morning and I got an emergency call to go to one of the children's wards.

We carried on treating this boy, and it was 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes and once a child's been... - we say once a child's been down for that long, then there's almost no chance of them coming back.

And at the back of our minds was the thought that this child's got very little chance of surviving.

And we'd got to a stage where we were waiting for the senior doctor, the consultant, to arrive at the hospital to make the final decision that we should stop treatment.

And then, it was funny, because as she arrived, the child got a pulse back - the child's heart started beating again - and it was an amazing thing to see.
