Prime suspect for di murder of Hafsat Yetunde Lawal say im no get hand for her death

Di ongoing trial into di death of 23-year-old Hafsat Yetunde Lawal take anoda twist wen di prime suspect Abdulrahman Bello testify for court say no be im kill her.

"No be me kill Hafsot Yetunde Lawal, di police accuse me say I dey lie and dem tok say na me kill am," e tok.

On Wednesday, 11 June, di trial of Abdulrahman Bello plus four odas wey dey charged wit five counts wey include murder and conspiracy bin kontinu for di Kwara State High Court.

Di late Hafsot, na final-year student for Kwara State College of Education for Ilorin wen she pass away suddenly for February 2025.

One BBC reporter wey dey for di trial say di main suspect, Abdulrahman, tell di court that teaching children to read and write plus oda activities na im job.

Di suspect tok say on 10 February 2025, im lover, late Hasfot Yetunde Lawal, come im house, many days afta she promise to come.

E di deceased tell am say she dey hungry and im go bread and Fanta. Wen im come back, di decease tell am say her belle dey pain her, so she no go fit take di Fanta again.

"I later comot to buy her rice and both of us chop like two lovers." E add say afta dem chop finish, dem enta room to relax, na for di middle of di relaxation, she get asthma attack. E say in rush carry her bag to fetch inhaler but e no dey her bag, so e rush out to go buy am, but by di time im reach house, na her dead body im find.

Abdulrahman add for im testimony say di deceased bin don bifor now take am to meet wit her parents, but her parents reject am say dem no fit marry bicos im no go school.

"These things make me vex so tey I go buy some hard liquor to drink, later I bury her for one small grave."

Abdurahman say aft aim finish to dey drink di ogogoro, one thought bin come im head say make im bury di body gently bicos im no dey okay and im parents bin dey worry for am.

Police later arrest am wen e run comot from im family house for Isalekoto area of Ilorin.
