The judges have made their final decision and the Write '04 awards have been handed out.

Write '04 attracted 334 entries from all over the world. Most were from Northamptonshire, but we also received submissions from five continents: countries included Australia, the United States, Bulgaria, India, Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

Love to hate

The subject matter varied - from birth to death, love to hate, living in the past to living in the future. We had tales of cricket, rugby, football, skateboarding, ghosts, aliens from outer space and catchicks (a cross between cats and chickens)! We had poems to make you laugh and stories to make you cry.

Novice winner

At the award ceremony at Wicksteed Park, writers were invited to read their work out loud. The bbc.co.uk/northamptonshire trophy (designed and made by local glass artist Gunta Anita Krumins) was awarded to the overall winner Alex Fox from Hackleton, Northamptonshire, for her short story The Time Of Our Singing.

Alex has only been writing short stories for six months. Click here to find out how she started and to hear Alex reading her winning entry.
