Joanna Morris
Journalist:-Shared Data Unit
Joanna is a data journalist with the Shared Data Unit. She honed her journalistic skills in regional newsrooms, spending almost a decade working for The Northern Echo before a secondment with the BBC inspired a love of data journalism.
Dedicated to finding the human stories at the heart of data sets, she was trained by the Shared Data Unit and went onto lead Newsquest’s Data Investigations Unit.
Before returning to the BBC, she worked for Press Association’s pioneering data journalism project, RADAR, as a data journalist for YouGov and as the first investigations editor for newspaper titles across the North East and Cumbria.
Joanna, from Middlesbrough, is a proud graduate of Teesside University and also holds a masters degree from The University of Amsterdam, where she studied English Literature. She loves how her role at the Shared Data Unit allows her to keep learning and to share skills with others, especially those from similar backgrounds.
Outside of journalism, she reads too much, is an avid cinema goer and gets to as many gigs as is possible in between herding her six-year-old twins.
