ఇవాళ, ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో directions అంటే దారి చూపడం ఎలాగో తెలుసుకుందాం. Simonకు బస్ స్టేషన్ ఎక్కడ ఉందో తెలియట్లేదు. ముగ్గురు అపరిచితులను అడిగారు. వాళ్లు ఎలా జవాబు చెప్పారో విందాం. మీకు పూర్తిగా అర్థం కాకపోయినా కంగారుపడకండి. నేను మీకు సహాయం చేస్తాను. వాళ్లు ముగ్గురూ Simon కు ఒకే దారి చెప్పారా? లేక వేరు వేరు దారులా? వినండి. 

Excuse me! Where's the bus station, please? 

1.      Go straight on, take the first road on the left, and it'll be on your right. 

2.      Go straight down here, take the first road on your left, and it's on the right. 

3.      Just go straight, turn left at the supermarket. It'll be on the right.

గమనించారా? ముగ్గురూ మూడు విధాలుగా చెప్పినా ఒకే దారి చూపించారు.

So let's look at those different phrases they used.

వాళ్లు ముగ్గురూ వాక్యాలను ఎలా మొదలుపెట్టారో మరోసారి విందాం. 

Go straight on…

…just go straight…

అందరూ కూడా ‘go straight’..తిన్నగా వెళ్లు అనే చెప్పారు. కాకపోతే మూడు రకాలుగా చెప్పారు. మొదటి వ్యక్తి ‘go straight on’ అన్నారు. రెండో వ్యక్తి ‘go straight down here’ అన్నారు.

You can even say 'go straight up here'! Let's practise the pronunciation. Repeat after me: 

‘Go straight on’. 

‘Go straight down here’.

ముగ్గురూ ‘take’ అనే క్రియ వాడారు. ఎలా వాడారో మళ్లీ విందాం. ప్రతీ వాక్యంలోనూ ఈ క్రియ తరువాత ఏమొస్తోందో జాగ్రత్తగా గమనించండి.

Ok, ‘take’ తరువాత 'the first road'..మొదటి రహదారి అని వచ్చింది. 'The second road', 'the third road'..ఇలా ఏదైనా చెప్పొచ్చు. తరువాత 'on the left'..ఎడమచేతి వైపు అని చెప్పారు. 'On the right' అంటే కుడిచేతివైపు.

And here, you can use 'on the' or 'on your' before 'right' and 'left'. Shall we practise?

Repeat after me: 

‘Take the first road on the right’. 

‘Take the second road on your left’.

తరువాత ‘turn’ అని కూడా వాడారు కదా. ఈ క్రియను ఎలా వాడారో చూద్దాం.

Yes! ఏదైనా landmark-మైలురాయి దగ్గర తిరగండి అని చెప్పాలంటే ‘at’ అని వాడి ఆ landmark ఏమిటో చెప్పాలి. లేదా వేరే మార్గంలోకి వెళ్లమని చెప్పాలంటే ‘on’ అని వాడి ఆ మార్గం పేరు చెప్పాలి.

Quick practice! Repeat after me: 

‘Turn left at the supermarket.’ 

‘Turn right on King’s Road.’

చివరిగా, Simon కు గమ్యం తెలుపడానికి వాడిన పదాలు ఏవి?

…and it’ll be on your right.

…and it’s on the right.

It’ll be on the right.

They used 'on the' or 'on your' before 'right' and 'left' again. And before that?

Before that, ‘it'll be' అన్నారు. 'it will be' కు కుదింపు ‘it'll be' అవుతుంది. 'It’s' అని కూడా అన్నారు. రెండింటికీ అర్థం ఒకటే.

And repeat after me: 

‘It's on the left’. 

‘It'll be on the right’.

ఇప్పుడు కొంచం ప్రాక్టీస్ చేద్దాం. బ్యాంక్‌కు వెళ్లడానికి మిమ్మల్ని దారి అడిగారనుకుందాం. ఎలా చెప్తారు? తరువాత Sam కూడా చెబుతారు. మీరు సరిగ్గా చెప్పారో లేదో సరిచూసుకోండి. మొదట, తిన్నగా వెళ్లమని చెప్పండి. ‘On’ వాడండి.
