కిందటివారం కెఫేకెళ్లి మనకు కావలసిన పదార్థాలను ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో ఎలా ఆర్డర్ చేసుకోవాలో నేర్చుకున్నాం కదా! ఇవాళ రెస్టారెంట్‌లో ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో భోజనం ఎలా ఆర్డర్ చేసుకోవాలో తెలుసుకుందాం. కెఫేకు, రెస్టారెంట్‌కు కొంచం వ్యత్యాసం ఉంది. రెస్టారెంట్‌లో మీల్ కోర్సులు ఉంటాయి…starters, main course, dessert ఇలాగన్నమాట! ఇవన్నీ ఏమిటో కార్యక్రమంలో తెలుసుకుందాం. ముందుగా, ఇక్కడ ఒక వ్యక్తి రెస్టారెంట్‌లో ఆర్డర్ చేస్తున్నారు, విందాం. మీకు పూర్తిగా అర్థం కాకపోయినా కంగారుపడకండి. నేను మీకు సహాయం చేస్తాను. ప్రస్తుతానికి వాళ్ల సంభాషణ జాగ్రత్తగా వినండి. సంభాషణలో వచ్చే కొన్ని పదాలు ఇవి: ‘soup’, ‘fish’ – చేపలు, ‘vegetables’ – కూరగాయలు, ‘chocolate cake’, ‘water’ – మంచినీళ్లు.

విన్నారా? వాళ్లు మూడు కోర్సులు ఆర్డర్ చేసారు. So, Sam, shall we look at the language we can use to order in a restaurant?

Absolutely!

ముందుగా వెయిటర్ అడిగిన ప్రశ్న: ‘Are you ready to order?’

There are only two ways to answer this question: ‘yes’ or ‘no’! In our conversation, the answer was ‘yes’.

ఏది భిన్నంగా ఉందో గమనించారా? పదార్థాలు ఆర్డర్ చేసే క్రమం ఇలా ఉంటుంది: ‘to start’ – మొదలుపెట్టేది, ‘for main’ – ప్రధానమైనది, ‘for dessert’ – ముగించేది లేదా చివరిది. ‘To start’ అనేది క్రియ, ‘main’, ‘dessert’...ఇవి రెండు నామవాచకాలు. కాబట్టి ఈ రెండిటికీ ‘for’ వాడతాం, ‘to’ కాదు.

Yes, ‘I’ll have... తక్షణం తీసుకున్న నిర్ణయాన్ని చెప్పడానికి ‘have’ తో పాటుగా ‘I’ll’ చెప్పాలి.

Yes, decisions in a restaurant are usually quite quick. And after ‘I’ll have…’ you say the food or drink you want.

గమనించారా పదార్థం ఆర్డర్ చేసేటప్పుడు ‘the’ వాడాలి. మనం చెప్తున్నది ఒక నిర్దిష్టమైన పదార్థం కాబట్టి ‘the’ చేర్చాలి. Listen to Sam to practise.

Repeat after me:

‘To start, I’ll have the soup, please.’

‘For main, I’ll have the fish with vegetables.’

‘And for dessert, I’ll have the chocolate cake, please.’

Yes – this is short for ‘would you like anything to drink? – and how do you answer it, do you remember? Let’s listen again:
