ਅੱਜ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੂੜਾ-ਕਰਕਟ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ। ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁਲਕ ਕੂੜਾ-ਕਰਕਟ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਈ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਮੁੜ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਸਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਮੁਲਕ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਕੂੜੇ ਦਾ ਮੁੜ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ?

A ten-year-old schoolgirl from Pakistan has been taking general rubbish and turning it into gift bags to help clean up the growing waste problem in her country. Pakistan generates 20m tonnes of rubbish a year and the figure is growing by 2.4% annually. Could Pakistan’s “youngest social entrepreneur” have the answer? Zymal Umer estimates she has sold $5,000 worth of bags and donates her profits to children’s charities, winning multiple international awards for her work.

Exactly, often all you need is one person to implement change and others will do the same.

Like the girl in the story? No! But I’ve tried to implement small changes in my own life, like reusing plastic bags.

I do that, too. And growing plants in old plastic containers. ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਮੁੜਵਰਤੋਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸੀ। ਚਲੋ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਵੱਲ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਕਿਹੜਾ ਮੁਲਕ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਕੂੜੇ ਦਾ ਮੁੜਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ?

OECD ਵਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਰਮਨੀ ਸਹੀ ਜਵਾਬ ਹੈ। ਜਰਮਨ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਕਚਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਖਾਦ ਵੀ ਬਣਾਉਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦੱਖਣੀ ਕੋਰੀਆ ਇਸ ਮਸਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ 59% ਨਾਲ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਨੰਬਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੈ।

It’s true, we can all make a difference in small ways.

‘Make a difference’ ਮਤਲਬ ਕੁਝ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਜਾਂ ਲੀਕ ਤੋਂ ਹੱਟਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਅਲੱਗ ਕਰਨਾ । Yes, in small ways, like we were saying earlier, with our plastic bags and containers.

Yeah, I often wish I could make a bigger difference than I do, though...

There’s your social conscience again, Sam!

But, really. I can often see where there’s a problem, but can’t come up with solutions.
