Useful expressions

1. pose a threat

ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ 'poses a threat' ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਉਸਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਵੱਧ ਬਾਰਿਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਹੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਹਾਂਗੇ 'poses flood threat'.

• Climate change poses threat to wildlife
• Rising crime poses threat to quality of life.

2. grapple with

ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ 'grapple with' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਜਿੱਠਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਨਾ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਅਕਸਰ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਹੱਲ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। 

• More people grappling with addiction 
• People in cities grappling with loneliness.

3. unsung heroes

'Unsung heroes' ਉਹ ਨਾਇਕ ਹਨ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੰਮ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਲ ਜਾਂ ਸਰਾਹਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੀ। ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਲਈ 'heroine' ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਦੋਨਾਂ ਲਈ 'heroes' ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
