Useful expressions

1. at death's door

ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ 'at death's door' ਦਾ ਇਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮਰਨ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਹੈ। 

• She is really ill. She's at death's door. 
• He was at death's door after the accident, but the doctors were able to save him.

2. closer to [extinction] than feared

ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ 'feared' ਤੋਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ 'closer to' ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਇਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਖਦਸ਼ੇ ਜਾਂ ਅੰਜਾਜ਼ੇ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਅਕਸਰ ਨਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਸਥਿਤੀਆਂਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

3. face a murky future
