મિત્રો, આજે અમે ચર્ચા કરીશું કે બે થી વધારે વસ્તુઓ હોય તો તમે એની તુલના કઈ રીતે કરશો. ચર્ચાને આગળ વધારીએ એ પહેલાં તમે ત્રણ વ્યક્તિઓને સાંભળો જે કોઈ વસ્તુ ઉપર પોતાનો અભિપ્રાય આપી રહ્યાં છે. અઘરું લાગતું હોય તો ડોન્ટ વરી, અમે તમને શીખવામાં મદદ કરીશું. સાંભળો અને નક્કી કરો કે ત્રણેય વ્યક્તિઓ કઈ વસ્તુ વિશે વાત કરી રહ્યાં છે.

‘I think Japanese food is the nicest food in the world. It's definitely the tastiest.’

‘Mexican food is the most delicious, in my opinion.’

‘Of all the food in the world, Italian is the best! And English is the worst.’

'Ah, I'm hungry now! બધાં ભોજન વિશે વાત કરી રહ્યાં છે. બરાબરને સેમ! ત્રણેય વિશ્વનાં અલગ-અલગ cuisine એટલે કે રાંધણકળા વિશે પોતાનો અભિપ્રાય આપી રહ્યાં છે.

Yes, they talked about Japanese, Mexican, Italian and English food. So they were taking one type of food and comparing it to many others.

હા અને તુલના કરવા માટે ત્રણેય વ્યક્તિઓ વિશેષણનો ઉપયોગ કરે છે. દાખલા તરીકે ‘nice’ એટલે કે સરસ, ‘tasty’ એટલે કે સ્વાદિષ્ટ, ‘delicious’ એટલે  કે સ્વાદિષ્ટ, ‘good’ એટલે સારું અને ‘bad’ એટલે ખરાબ.

Let's listen again to the first speaker – how does he use the words 'nice' and 'tasty'?

‘I think Japanese food is the nicest food in the world. It's definitely the tastiest.’

Ok. તો એક સ્વરવાળાં વિશેષણ જેમ કે ‘nice’ અને બે સ્વરવાળા વિશેષણ જેમ કે ‘tasty’ માટે નિયમ છે કે વિશેષણ પહેલાં અંગ્રેજી શબ્દ ‘the’ ઉમેરો. સાથે-સાથે અંતમાં ‘-est’ ઉમેરો. મિત્રો, ‘nice’ નો અંત ‘e’ સાથે થાય છે અને એટલા માટે આ શબ્દની સાથે ‘-st’ નો ઉપયોગ કરીશું.

And in the case of 'tasty', the 'y' at the end changes to an 'I' in 'the tastiest'. This doesn't change the pronunciation, it's just when you’re writing. Let's quickly practise! Repeat after me:

‘the nicest’

‘the tastiest’

‘It's the nicest food in the world.’

‘It's the tastiest food in the world.’

મિત્રો, ‘delicious’ ની જેમ બેથી વધારે સ્વરવાળા શબ્દ સાથે શું ઉપયોગ કરીશું? જાણવા માટે સાંભળો:

‘Mexican food is the most delicious, in my opinion.’

In this case, we don't change the adjective – 'delicious' stays 'delicious'.

તેના બદલે વિશેષણની આગળ બે શબ્દો 'the most' ઉમેરીશું.

Yes, so ‘interesting' becomes 'the most interesting', 'exciting' becomes 'the most exciting', etcetera. Shall we practise the pronunciation? Repeat after me, please:

‘the most delicious’

‘It’s the most delicious food in the world.’

‘And we just have two more to look at quickly!’

હા, બેexceptions એટલે કે અપવાદો છે જેના વિશે આજે અમે વાત કરી રહ્યાં છે અને આ બહુ મહત્ત્વનાં અપવાદો છે. મિત્રો, આ પ્રકરાનાં વિશેષણો સાથે અંગ્રેજી શબ્દ ‘the’ નો ઉપયોગ કરીશું.

‘Italian is the best! And English is the worst.’

અને આ અપવાદ એટલા માટે છે કારણકે આ શબ્દો મૂળ ક્રિયાપદો ‘good’ અને ‘bad’ જેવું સંભળાતા કે દેખાતાં નથી. અને આપણે ‘-est’ નો ઉપયોગ કરીશું નહીં.

So don’t say 'the goodest' or 'the baddest' – they're not correct! Repeat after me:

‘the best’

Now it's time for some practice. તમને ‘alone with a book’, ‘in class’ અને ‘online’ વચ્ચે અંગ્રેજી શીખવાની સૌથી સરળ રીતની પસંદગી કરવી છે. જવાબ આપતી વખતે વિશેષણ ‘cheap’ નો ઉપયોગ કરવાનો છે. પોતાનો જવાબ સેમના જવાબ સાથે સરખાવો.
