ਹੈਲੋ How do I… ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸੁਆਗਤ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਰਾਜਵੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ ਸੈਮ।

ਅੱਜ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਡਰ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ 'spiders' ਮੱਕੜੀਆਂ, 'snakes' ਸੱਪ, 'horror movies' ਡਰਾਉਣੀਆਂ ਫ਼ਿਲਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ 'heights' ਯਾਨੀ ਉਚਾਈਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿੰਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੱਸਿਆ।

Examples
I'm scared of spiders. 

I'm really frightened of snakes.

Horror movies are scary.

I'm absolutely terrified of heights.

ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਡਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਲੱਗ ਅਲੱਘ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੱਸਿਆ।ਸੈਮ ਆਪਾਂ ਇੰਨਾਂ ਵਾਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤੀ ਗਈ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝੀਏ।

Let's do it! Let's start with person number one – she used the adjective 'scared' after 'I'm'.

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਕੜੀਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ 'scared' ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਤੇ 'spiders' ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਛੋਟਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਲਗਾਇਆ, ਉਹ ਕੀ ਸੀ?

ਹਾਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ 'of' ਸ਼ਬਦ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂਵ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਨਾ ਸੈਮ?

Yes! Let's try saying the whole sentence. Repeat after me, please:

I'm scared of spiders.

ਦੂਸਰੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਇਸ  ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ 'scared of' ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ। ਚਲੋ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਕੀ ਕਿਹਾ।

I'm really frightened of snakes.

It was 'frightened of', which is another way to say 'scared of'. And like 'scared of' you need to use the verb 'to be', so 'I'm really frightened of snakes'. Let's quickly practise that. Repeat after me:

I'm really frightened of snakes. 

And what does 'really' mean here?

'Very' ਦੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਉੱਤੇ 'really' ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਇੰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਤਾਂ ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਗਲਾ ਵਾਕ ਉਚਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਲੱਗਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਾਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

I'm absolutely terrified of heights.

ਉਸਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ 'terrified of' ਜਿਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਚਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਡਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੱਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਬਦ 'absolutely'  ਵੀ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਵਾਕ ਵਿੱਚ 'really' ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ।

Yes, and notice that, again, we have the verb 'to be' and we use 'of' before the noun. Let's practise this together:

ਸੱਚੀਂ ਇਹ ਵਾਕ ਡਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਗਲਾ ਵਾਕ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਿਲਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਵਾਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਵੱਲ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇਣਾ।

Did you hear it? She said 'scary', and the adjective was at the end of the sentence.

ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਡਰਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਅਸੀਂ 'scary' ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਵਾਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ 'horror movies' ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ 'to be' ਲਗਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
