ਦੋ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੀਨਦੇ ਟਰਿੱਪ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਆਪਾਂ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਦੋਨੋਂ ਹੀ ਚੀਨ ਗਏ ਸੀ ਜਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਕੋਈ ਇੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

Have you ever been to China?

No I haven't, have you?

Yes, I went to China last year.

ਕੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਆਇਆ? ਹਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਚੀਨ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ।

So Sian, shall we look at the language we can use to talk about experiences?

ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਾਕ ਰਚਨਾ 'have you ever..?' ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ past participle – been ਲਗਾਇਆ- ਇਹ ਵਾਕ ਰਚਨਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਤਜ਼ਰਬਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Yes so they are not asking about a specific time in the past, but about a life experience. So to ask someone about places they have visited in their life, you can use the structure 'have you ever been to…' and then give the name of the place.

ਠੀਕ ਤਾਂ 'have you ever been to China?' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ, 'ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਦੇ ਚੀਨ ਗਏ ਹੋ?'

Let's quickly check the pronunciation. Notice that 'been' becomes 'bin' when spoken in a sentence. Let's practise. Repeat after me.

ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੇ ਤਜ਼ਰਬਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲਈ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਰਿਆ 'been' ਦੇpast participle ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ।

Yes, you just need to remember to put the verb in the past participle. For example 'eat' becomes 'eaten' so we can ask 'have you ever eaten English food?'

ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਤਾਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ, ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਦੇ ਇੰਗਲਿਸ਼ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾਦਾ ਹੈ? ਦੇਖੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਜੁਆਬ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ। Can you remember how the speaker replied? Let's listen again.

So if the answer is 'no', you can reply by saying 'no, I haven't'. And if the answer is 'yes', you can say 'yes, I have'.

ਦੂਸਰੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ'ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਗਏ ਹੋ?’ 'Have you?’ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ 'have you ever been to China?' ਪੁੱਛਣ ਦਾ ਛੋਟਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਯਾਦ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਮਸਲੇ ਤੇ ਗੱਲ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਦਹੁਰਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ।

ਅੱਛਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ‘present perfect’  ਨਹੀਂ ਬਲਕਿ ‘past tense’ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ- ਕੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂ?

That's a good question. So now the speaker is talking about a specific time in the past – last year – so they use the past simple tense.

ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਤਜ਼ਰਬਿਆਂ, ਕੁਝ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਕਿਉਹ ਕਦੋਂ ਵਾਪਰੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਾਕਿਆਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ‘present perfect’ ਕਾਲ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ‘past tense’ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕਰੋ।
ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਆਪਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰੈਕਟਿਸ ਕਰੀਏ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪੁੱਛੋਗੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ। ਆਪਣਾ ਜੁਆਬ ਚੈੱਕ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਦਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੁਣਨਾ।
