आजच्या भागात एखाद्याला आमंत्रण कसं द्यायचं ते शिकूया. ही चार वाक्यं ऐका आणि यातली कुठली व्यक्ती रात्रीच्या जेवणाचं आमंत्रण देतीये ते सांगा.

Are you free tonight?

Do you want to go to the cinema on Friday?

Would you like to come for dinner this weekend?

Why don't you come to the beach with us?

ऐकलंत? यातली तिसरी व्यक्ती रात्रीच्या जेवणाचं निमंत्रण देतीये.

Yes! So you can ask question 'Are you free …? and then give the day or time. So you can say 'Are you free this weekend?' Or 'Are you free tonight?...

Great! Hopefully the person is free and you can invite them to do something.

Sian
Yes, one way to invite people is to use the verb 'want' – 'Do you want to…' But what happens to the pronunciation? Let's listen again.

Do you want to go to the cinema on Friday?

Interesting! So 'want आणि to मिळून होतं 'wanna'.

Sian
Yes. Let's practise. Repeat after me:

‘Wanna’     

‘Do you wanna go to the cinema?'

Great! तर  'want to' नंतर क्रियापद येईल आणि  इथे आपण वापरणार आहोत 'go'. यासाठी आपण  'have' चा वापर -  Do you wanna have…? किंवा  'come' चा वापर  - Do you wanna come…? असंही म्हणू शकतो.

Sian
So next we heard 'would you like to…'. This is slightly more formal than 'do you want to' but it’s another useful way to make an invitation.

हो, याचीही रचना तशीच होते 'do you want to..'.. आणि मग मूळ क्रियापद वापरायचं.

Let's practise. Repeat after me: 

‘Would you like to…’ 

‘Would you like to come for dinner?’

Great – we have one more way to invite someone, don't we?

That's right – We can also use 'why don't you…'?  

Tejali
'Why don't you..'? ही वाक्यरचना नकारार्थी आहे पण याचा उद्देश होकारार्थी असतो, आणि बराचसा अनौपचारिक सुद्धा. आपण म्हणतो ना तू येणार नाहीस?

And after 'why don't you..?' we just add the verb.

आमंत्रण देताना 'Why don't you..' असंही विचारता येईल. आपण आमंत्रण देतोय हे स्पष्ट करण्यासाठी 'come' हे क्रियापद वापरायचं. ती व्यक्ती तुमच्याकडे येणार आहे, come म्हणजे येणे. त्यासोबत 'with us'  किंवा 'with me' वापरू शकता. Let’s listen again.     

Why don't you come to the beach with us?

चला आता करूया सराव. तुमच्या मैत्रिणीला उद्या वेळ आहे का हे तुम्हाला विचारायचं आहे. कसं विचाराल?

आता, तिला वेळ आहे, तर त्याला बागेत येतेस का असं विचारा. यासाठी तुम्हाला 'want' वापरायचं आहे. उच्चारावर नीट लक्ष द्या.       

Do you want to go to the park?

Tejali
Well done. तिला मात्र बागेत जायचं नाहीये. मग काय करायचं? तिला जेवायला बोलवाल दुपारी? तिला पर्याय देताना 'why' ने प्रश्नाची सुरूवात करा.
