आम्ही लहानपणी हे केलं, आम्ही लहानपणी ते केलं, मी लहानपणी गोट्या खेळायचे, लहानपणी मी खूप लपाछपी खेळले... लहानपणाबद्दल बोलतांना किती छान वाटतं! आज आपण आपल्या बालपणाबद्दल इंग्रजीत कसं बोलायचं ते शिकणार आहोत.  

A.I used to play football with my friends but now I don’t.

B.I used to watch a lot of films when I was a child.

C.I didn’t use to listen to music much when I was young.

ते त्यांच्या लहानपणीच्या आवडीनिवडी, छंदांबद्दल बोलत आहेत.

Absolutely! Now let’s have a look at the language they used.

Yes! या सर्व वाक्यांमध्ये जुन्या सवयी म्हणजे ‘past habits’ बद्दल बोलत आहेत. लहानपणीच्या गोष्टी, सवयी, आवडीनिवडी, ज्या आता आहेत किंवा नाहीत. पण यातलं बराचसं भूतकाळातलं आहे. कसं सांगितलं त्यांनी? चला ऐकुया. 

I used to play football with my friends.

I used to watch a lot of films.

आपल्याला एखादी सवय होती हे सांगण्यासाठी ते म्हणाले, ‘used to’ म्हणजे... करायचो.

आता  इथे ‘used to’ नंतर काय म्हटलंय ऐका :

 I used to play football with my friends.

I used to watch a lot of films when I was child.

‘Used to’ नंतर प्रत्येकाने मूळ क्रियापद वापरलं. इथे आपण ‘play’ आणि  ‘watch’ ऐकलं पण तुम्ही कुठलही क्रियापद वापरू शकता. फक्त त्याचं मूळ रूप वापरायचं लक्षात ठेवा, कारण आपण आधीच ‘used to’ वापरून भूतकाळ आहे हे सांगितलं आहे.

Now, let’s quickly practise the pronunciation together! The important thing to notice here is that we pronounce ‘used to’ together, not like it’s two separate words. Repeat after me:

‘used to’

‘I used to play football.’   

‘I used to watch films.’

आता अजून एक व्यक्ती आहे तो थोडं वेगळ बोलतोय तो अशा गोष्टीबद्दल बोलतोय ज्या  तो आधी करत नव्हता. तो कसं म्हणाला ते ऐकूया आता.

I didn’t use to listen to music much.

त्याने‘use to’च्या आधी ‘didn’t’वापरलं. बरोबर ! आणि त्यानंतर नेहेमीसारख क्रियापद वापरलं, सोप्पय !!
