YMCA FC

The Under 10s, U11s, U15s and U16s all recorded good wins...

7-A-SIDE:

UNDER 9s:
S/SHORE A 2 YMCA A 1
S/SHORE B 4 YMCA B 3

YMCA were very unlucky to come away from South Shore last Saturday without a single point as they were pipped by single goals in two hard fought tussles. In the A game Shore went into the interval with a 1-0 lead but YMCA levelled after the restart with a well taken goal by Laurence J. However, the home side netted again before the end which clinched them a narrow victory. Joel R was notable for YMCA.

In the B contest Shore started the brighter and led 1-0 at the break. Soon after the restart the home side netted twice more and looked to be coasting to victory. YMCA though displayed excellent spirit despite the bitterly cold conditions and strikes by Dan H and Fred S brought them back to 3-2. Shore then hit a fourth goal but YMCA refused to give up and a 2nd goal by Fred again reduced their deficit to just one goal but despite their brave efforts they just could find an equaliser. YMCA skipper Reece M was outstanding throughout.

UNDER 10s:

YMCA A 3 S/SHORE A 2
YMCA B 4 S/SHORE B 0

YMCA returned to winning ways by collecting all six points at a very cold Seafield Rd last Saturday. At the end of an entertaining first half in the A game the scores were locked at 2-2, YMCA’s goals coming from Kit G and Owen F with a superb shot from the half way line. YMCA missed a number of chances after the restart but a 2nd goal from the impressive Kit G sealed the points.

YMCA had the edge throughout in the B game and took a 2-0 lead into half time, Josh C and Chris C notching their goals. YMCA continued to have the upper hand in the 2nd half and Chris C netted twice more to complete his hat trick and earn his team another 3 points. Rhys M and Mattie J both had excellent games for YMCA.

11-A-SIDE

UNDER 11s:
THORNTON 1 YMCA 8

YMCA proved far too strong for the home side and took a four-goal lead into the break. These goals came from the impressive strike duo of Jack R and Christian H who both weighed in with two excellent goals and Carl K made two superb saves from two good Thornton efforts.

Immediately after the interval a huge defensive error cost YMCA a clean sheet as the home striker nipped in after a short back pass failed to reach the ‘keeper but YMCA bounced back with goal of the game, a great strike from Christian who fired in the top corner from 20 yards. Hill was then bought down and he converted the resultant penalty himself before he notched his 5th goal of the game with a 20 yard free kick. Conah B came close with a good strike but his effort well saved only for Cameron S to nip in bag YMCA’s eighth and final goal.

UNDER 14s:
YMCA 2 WARTON TYPHOONS 12

YMCA were again left depleted for this game against title chasing Warton at Seafield Rd last Sunday and played the entire first half with just 10 players. However, despite this they displayed great spirit and were only trailing 3-2 at the interval, Mattie K and Alan G bagging well taken goals. In the 2nd half though the numerical disadvantage and the bitterly cold weather took its toll and the visitors finished up easy winners as they added a further nine goals.

UNDER 15s:
FLEETWOOD TOWN 1 YMCA 2

Despite the cold and raw conditions and a very uneven pitch YMCA started very brightly at Fleetwood last Sunday and were 2-0 ahead inside the first 10 minutes with strikes by Alex G and Lloyd P. They continued to have the upper hand for the remainder of the half but couldn't add to their lead before the interval. It was Town though who started the 2nd half well and within a minute of the restart they reduced the score to 2-1.

As the home side pressed hard for an equaliser YMCA’s defence remained solid, allowing Town very few further opportunities and in the end this was a much deserved victory for the visitors. Oscar R was outstanding in YMCA’s midfield with Danny J also notable throughout.

UNDER 16s:
YMCA 4 FC RANGERS 0

Playing their first game for 5 weeks YMCA understandably looked a little rusty in the early stages of this encounter at a bitterly cold and raw Seafield Rd last Sunday. Several early chances were squandered before they eventually took the lead in the 20th minute when the impressive Harry F floated in a superb free kick to the far post where Taz M forced the ball home. 5 minutes later Taz was on target again when he netted a fine header from an excellent Adam Z corner and it remained 2-0 at half time. YMCA’s dominance continued after the restart and midway through the 2nd half they were awarded a penalty after Neil W was brought down.

The excellent Taz converted the spot kick to complete his hat trick before recent signing Winston H scored his first goal for the club with a superb strike to round off a fine YMCA victory. Any Rangers’ threat in attack was nullified throughout by a solid YMCA rearguard of Jon B, James P, Nathan A and Tom P.
