YMCA FC

Lozz Rose brings us up to date with YMCA's match reports from the opening game of the season...

UNDER 11s:

SOUTH SHORE 1 YMCA 3

A fierce game between two excellent sides provided great entertainment for spectators. YMCA dominated the first 20 minutes with some excellent free flowing football and took the lead through a superb Jordan W strike. YMCA soon doubled their lead when some excellent work by Conah B and Jack R gave Bradley G the chance to score with a fine finish. Jack R then got himself on to the score sheet with an excellent turn and finish. In the second half Shore with the wind at their backs applied more pressure and had chances but ‘keeper Ryan M was on form to keep them at bay although 10 minutes from time Shore did grab a deserved goal which proved to be a mere consolation. James R and Carl K shone in an impressive YMCA team performance.

UNDER 12s:

YMCA 3 CLIFTON RAN 1

Last season’s League and Cup double winners YMCA were made to work hard for this victory by the visitors at an overcast and drizzly Seafield Rd last Sunday. In fact, it was Clifton who started the brighter and they opened the scoring after just 7 minutes. However, YMCA’s normal rhythm eventually began to emerge and it was no surprise when they equalised with a goal from new signing Sean K. As YMCA finished the half on top the outstanding Linus W scored a second to send them into the break with a
2-1 lead. YMCA continued to have the initiative after the restart in the issue was but beyond doubt when the impressive Dan L bagged a third goal for YMCA. Also notable for the home side were Calvin R and ‘keeper Liam M.

UNDER 15s:

WYRE JUN 0 YMCA 2

YMCA kicked off the season with a deserved win against Wyre Juniors at Cleveleys Sports Centre on Sunday. Blustery conditions made life difficult for both teams but YMCA took the lead in the 13th minute when Josh V ran onto a great pass from Oscar R and crashed the ball past the advancing keeper. YMCA coped well defending against a strong wind and controlled much of the first half. Their failure to add to the score was largely due to some fine saves by the Wyre goalkeeper. In the second half YMCA went close on several occasions but a second goal eluded them until 3 minutes from the end. Josh V finished off a fine flowing move involving Molloy, Oscar R and Thompson to smash home his second of the afternoon. Harry H was the man of the match in a good team performance with new boys Daniel J and Ben W showing up well.

UNDER 16s:

YMCA 2 FOXHALL 2

YMCA started shakily in wet and blustery conditions at Seafield Rd last Sunday allowing Foxhall to take an early lead. The visitors could easily have added two or three more goals but failed to do so before YMCA began to settle down and find some rhythm. Midway through the half YMCA levelled through debutant Jonathan M who netted from 12yds, the ball coming back to him after a Chris B effort had struck the far post. YMCA then went ahead just before the break through Taz M who ran on to a through ball and cleverly clipped it over the advancing ‘keeper into an empty net. YMCA had a slight edge in the 2nd half and striker James G was unlucky to head against the crossbar twice but the visitors staged a late rally and forced an equaliser 5 minutes from time although YMCA almost snatched a winner in the last minute with a James G shot from a narrow angle which was well saved. In a very entertaining encounter Neil W was outstanding in the heart of YMCA’s defence and was well supported by Nathan A and Jack C. Harry F also worked tirelessly throughout.

UNDER 18s:

ECCLESTON & HESKIN 0 YMCA 8

Despite the comprehensive scoreline YMCA were never really at their best but still made it two wins from two in this LEP League match last Sunday. Jack M opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a towering header from a Sam T corner. Five minutes later skipper Adam W finished from close range and it remained 2-0 at the break. Early in the second half debutant Nathan R finished neatly to increase YMCA’s lead before Tom B headed a fourth. Nathan R completed his hat-trick with two more close range finishes then in the closing minutes Turnock’s darting run and cross was finished off by Dan H. The scoring was completed with Turnock grabbing a deserved goal for himself to record a pleasing result from a team with no doubt more to come in the future.
