YMCA FC

The U18s are through to the Last 16 of the LFA Youth Cup...

UNDER 9s:

BJFF A 5 YMCA A 2
BJFF B 1 YMCA B 5

YMCA took a share of the points at Bispham last Saturday. In the A game they were very much second-best in the 1st half and reached half time 3-0 behind. After the restart though YMCA’s play improved considerably and two goals by Laurence J pulled them back to 3-2. However, as they pushed men forward in search of an equaliser they were caught out by speedy counter attacks which led to them conceding a further two goals. Joel R impressed throughout. In the B game YMCA looked the sharper team from the start and raced into a 4-1 lead. They continued to have the edge after the restart and added one further goal before the end. Ryan H notched an excellent hat trick with Marcus W and Dan H also on target. Reece M shone in a fine all-round team YMCA display.

UNDER 10s:
YMCA A 5 BJFF A 1
YMCA B 5 BJFF B 1

YMCA comfortable collected all six points on a fine and sunny morning at Seafield Rd last Saturday. In the A game they reached half time with a 3-0 lead and although the visitors pulled a goal back in the 2nd half YMCA netted twice more to complete a fine victory. Cameron R notched two goals with Kit G, Lewis T and Jordan M all on target also. The B game followed a very similar pattern with YMCA being 3-0 ahead at the break. Again BJFF pulled a goal back only for YMCA to score twice more. Their goals came from Rhys M (2), Dave C, Kai L and Matthew J.

11-A-SIDE

UNDER 11s:
YMCA 1 SOUTH SHORE 1

This was an entertaining game from start to finish. YM never really got going in the first half and seemed constantly under pressure as South Shore showed their class. YM soaked up much of the pressure with some solid defending, but eventually South Shore broke down the defence to take a deserved lead. YMCAs only effort saw a Bradley G strike come off the post on the stroke of half time. In the second half YMCA’s Carl K put in a man of the match performance to turn the game round and as they showed more belief they were rewarded with an equaliser from great 20 yards strike by Jack C. YMCA came close to snatching victory good efforts from Conah B, Carl K and Jack R but the game finished all-square. Johnny A shone throughout for YMCA.

UNDER 12s:
FOXHALL 1 YMCA 3

YMCA just edged a hard-fought top-of-the-table contest against Foxhall at Fisher's Field last Sunday. Both sides were evenly matched in the first half but YMCA went into the half time break with a lead when after good work down the left hand side by Jordan B, Sean K netted from close range. Foxhall equalised with a penalty early in the second half but Linus W then restored YMCA’s lead with a shot from the edge of the six-yard box before Sean K notched his second and YMCA's third with just minutes left. Calvin R, Jamie M and Jack D were impressive for YMCA.

UNDER 13s:
YMCA 4 SPIRIT OF YOUTH 0

YMCA earned another 3 points with this well deserved win against Spirit. Despite efforts from Ryan A, Paul D and Liam R, the home side went into the break at only 1-0 thanks to a Sam M header. The Spirit keeper continued a fine performance with several fine second half saves. Three goals in the last ten minutes from Ryan A, Robbie H and debutant Jordan F sealed the points for YMCA. Man of the match Oliver D and Keil F both had excellent games in the YMCA central defence.

UNDER 14s:
WARTON TYPHOONS 6 YMCA 1

After three players cried off with injuries just a few hours before the game YMCA were left with just 10 players for this encounter at Warton last Sunday. They were also unfortunate when they fell behind to an own goal and Warton added another to reach the interval with a 2-0 lead. Despite their numeric disadvantage though YMCA continued to display great spirit and reduced the score soon after the restart with a strike by Jason M only for Warton to restore their 2-goal lead immediately afterwards. As tiredness took its toll though Warton grabbed three further goals in the closing minutes to make it a cruel scoreline for YMCA’s after their valiant efforts. Dave M, Dan F and James R all shone for YMCA with Mattie K working hard throughout as a lone striker.

UNDER 16s:
BJFF 4 YMCA 2

YMCA eventually went down to BJFF after a gritty display at Moor Park last Sunday. They took an early lead through Taz M but BJ came back strongly and scored twice to take a 2-1 lead into the break. YMCA were back on level terms though early in the 2nd half when the outstanding Nathan A powered a header into the net from a corner kick. However, the home side levelled 10 minutes later and sealed victory with a fourth goal in the closing minutes. Harry F also impressed throughout for YMCA with Taz M also notable with a hard working display.

UNDER 18s:
YMCA 4 ORMSKIRK 2

Yet again the Sunday morning sun shone at Seafield Road for this LFA Youth Cup 3rd Round tie with a place in the last sixteen at stake. YMCA started well against opponents who showed that they were comfortable in possession, and were soon in the lead. In the eleventh minute Jordan D hit a cross field pass to Dan H, whose first time 20 yard shot beat the visitors keeper. Only a minute later Jordan D hit the post, but he didn't have to wait too long to get on the score sheet after Matty R's defence splitting pass had put Jordan D clear. He calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. Just before half time Jordan D grabbed YMCA's third with a stunning 25yd drive to give them a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break. To their credit Ormskirk came out fighting in the 2nd half and reduced the deficit within minutes. Lifted by this goal the visitors netted a second with still 30 minutes remaining and YMCA had to regain their composure. Anthony S slotted into midfield and this change turned the match back to YMCA's favour. With 10 minutes remaining a Jack M free kick found Hartley 12 yards out and he neatly converted YMCA's fourth to put the game beyond Ormskirk.

GIRLS U10s:
YMCA 3 LAMMACK 2

A slight change in formation proved successful for YMCA who started off well at sunny Seafield Rd last Sunday. After countless efforts on goal during the first 10 minutes it finally came down to a quick sprint by Olivia H to put YMCA ahead. This was shortly followed by a goal from Laurel N who then notched her 2nd to make it 3-0 a minute before half time. YMCA started the second half as strong as the first and had further attempts on goal. However, after a scramble in the box 5 minutes from time Lammack scored and they followed this up with a 2nd just 2 minutes later. Both teams contributed to an excellent contest but YMCA had the edge overall and fully deserved this victory.
