With 60 medals won Guernsey had a successful time at the Island Games in Åland in 2009. Of those 21 were gold, 12 were silver and 27 were bronze which put the island fourth on the medal table behind the Faroe Islands, the Isle of Man and Jersey. Sark also saw medal success with a pair of silvers won in the shooting. ![]() Roberto Maschurucci SundayThere were medals on the first day of competition for Guernsey as Steve Dawes picked up a silver in the 10000m and Roberto Maschurucci won bronze in the judo. MondayThe swimming events started on the Monday of the games which gave Guernsey a medal boost with five of Guernsey's swimmers taking podium positions. ![]() Patrick Ogier celebrates his gold medal Away from the pool more medals were won on the track and in the judo and Patrick Ogier and Dominic McLuskey won their first medals in the tennis. TuesdayThe third day of competition saw Guernsey's first medal in the Archery as Chantelle Goubert won bronze. Guernsey's swimmers and athletes had more success and the table tennis team may have lost out to Jersey but still won a bronze. ![]() Lee Merrien in the 5000m Sark also won their first medal as Nicholas Dewe and Stefan Roberts won silver in the team Automatic Ball Trap shooting. WednesdayThere were more medals for Guernsey in the Archery on day four, as well as in the swimming and on the track including a win for Lee Merrien in the 5000m as he beat former Olympian Janne Holmén on home turf. ![]() Tom Druce in the 400m ThursdayOnce again it was the swimming pool and the track that yielded the best results for Guernsey on the fifth day as Tom Druce won gold in the men's 400m in the athletics and there were two medals for Guernsey in the women's 200m Butterfly. FridayGuernsey's medal haul increased once again as the games neared their close. Lee Merrien won gold and Lee Garland bronze in the men's 1500m. ![]() Lee Garland in the steeplechase In the tennis, Patrick Ogier and Dominic McLuskey continued their success winning gold in the team event and there was a bronze for Guernsey in the men's football. SaturdayThere was more gold for Guernsey on the last day of competition as Kiara Green and Gayle Lloyd came out on top in the women's doubles badminton.
