Approaching the end of the week there are plenty of medals up for grabs.

Guernsey's star athlete didn't disappoint at the Island Games in Rhodes. Dale Garland lived up to all the pre-Games hype smashing his own Island games record by a full second in the 400 metres.

The Sarnian athlete says he felt under pressure to perform. There was also Bronze in the same race for Tom Druce and Silver in the 800 metres for Helen Watts.

To the pool and Guernsey's 4 x 100 relay team won the gala event in front of a packed aquatics centre in the final race of the games. The team of Jonathon Le Noury, Ben Lowndes, Jeremy Osborne and Ian Hubert went through the pain barrier to win the 400m Freestyle.

All told Guernsey won 21 medals in the pool, 4 of them gold. Coach Alison Frankland says she’s proud of her team.

Tennis, Patrick Ogier and Dom Mclusky will be looking to add to their team gold won earlier in the week when they walk onto the court this morning in the doubles final. Guernsey’s women Basketballer's will have to pick themselves up from the disappointment of losing the semi final yesterday to Menorca.

The defending champions are in the bronze play off game this morning and will have to bounce back from the 76 – 53 defeat.

To Cycling and for once there was no controversy at the time trial event, but unfortunately no medals either. The Guernsey team missed out on a team bronze by just one minute at Giranda.

Clay Target shooting concludes today with the Automatic ball trap event Guernsey's team of Shane Harley and Kenneth Laine are closing in on yet another medal at another successful games for the Bailiwicks shooters.

Guernsey's Windsurfers have an unconfirmed silver in the team competition. Racing finished yesterday with the Menorcans dominating the fleet as expected. Sarnian James Briggs finished fourth overall in the individual rankings.

And Clare Chapple will have the wind in her sails after finishing 6th in the laser radial class of the sailing competition. The Guernsey yacht woman was competing against a strong field of mix sexed sailors.

Golf and Guernseys best player of the tournament, Steve Mahy, finished 15th , 17 over par. Only two players in the whole competition managed to finish below par in what were hot and difficult conditions.
