Results - Day Three - Mon 2nd JulyMedals will be decided today in Athletics, Cycling, Judo, Clay Target, Swimming and Tennis. It's gold rush for Guernsey on day three of the 2007 Island Games. Guernsey’s, Kimberly Goodall, secured the athletics team's first gold medal in Rhodes winning the 400 metres in dramatic fashion. Laura Arblaster put in an impressive performance to take bronze. And Guernsey's fantastic night on the track continued with another gold, Tom Druce timing his finish to perfection to retain the title he won in Shetland two years ago. ![]() Ben Lowndes recieves his silver medal. In the pool Jeremy Osborne scored a narrow victory over Jersey to take Gold in the 200 metre Individual Medley. The Guernsey man finished just one tenth of a second ahead of Ian Black at the Rhodes Nautical Club. Meanwhile, the men’s relay team got bronze in their medley. Jonathon le Noury finished third in the 1500m freestyle and Ben Lowndes and Ian Hubert got silver and bronze in the 200 Butterfly. It was a special moment for 17-year-old Robyn Le Freic who was delighted at winning her first individual medal with silver in the 100m Butterfly. In tennis Pat Ogier and Dom Mcluskey both won their singles matches against Bermuda to claim top spot in front of great Sarnian support; something which is becoming a feature of the Games. Dom Mcluskey and his teammate paid tribute to their coach after a great win. ![]() Ian Hubert won bronze. Following Tobyn Horton's success there was another cycling gold thanks to a brave performance from Meggie Bichard who, despite coming off her bike twice still managed to win the ladies mountain bike criterion. The Sarnian rider secured top spot after coming from behind to beat the Bermudan rider who’d led for most of the race. Bichard says it was an extremely tough race but was determined to hold on. In the men’s race Rob Smart finished in 6th place in a tough field. Guernsey’s women basketball players lost a heartbreaker of a game to Bermuda by 47 points to 51. A fight back in the fourth quarter put the green and whites within touching distance of the Caribbean side but it wasn’t enough to secure back to back wins. The men’s side were thrashed by the Cayman Islands by 91 points to 52 and currently prop up the bottom of their group table. ![]() Guernsey's Bronze winning 4x200m Swimming Team. As expected Guernsey’s men’s volleyballer’s lost in straight sets to tournament favourites Bermuda. But the Sarnians can take heart from their performance as they weren’t totally outclassed and will need to show the same battling qualities to get the win they need to progress to the knockout stages. In the ladies event Guernsey lost out to Aland in straight sets and face Menorca today in a must win game. And Guernsey’s only realistic hope of a medal in the windsurfing looks likely to be in the team event after two days of competition. A strong side from Menorca are out and out favourites for the gold after dominating the first races.
