Muhibur's father Hafuzur Rahman came to England from Singapore in 1965, at first working in a factory. In 1970, he brought his son Muhibur Rahman to this country. Just 13 years old, Muhibur went to secondary school in Birmingham and Oxford. He continued his studies in accounting at college in London and started working at the age of 17. In 1976 he started his own business in the catering trade acquiring a restaurant, along with his partner Dewan Alam Noor Raja, the grandson of Sylhet's famous poet Hason Raja. They have four sons all of whom are currently studying. In 1985, Rahman became the owner of another restaurant in Brighton. His partner the poet Liaquat Ali Khan named the restaurant 'Nirupoma Tandoori'. It was 1985 when Rahman decided to move to Gloucester. He became an active member in the community and quickly became known as a successful businessman. He now has three restaurants and two takeaways and lives with his family in Nailsworth. As well as having an active role in the community, Rahman is also an active member of the Labour Party. He is currently the vice-chairman of Nailsworth and Minchinhampton Labour Party. This is not really surprising as Rahman came from a political background. He is also a poet, writing in both Bengali and English. He has written poems in both The Citizen and Jonomot, a weekly Bengali newspaper published in London.
