This page will update you on the most recent developments in the Voices project.
Lately we've been straying even further into the history of the neighbourhood.
On Monday Trish Kenny from the Local Studies Library and Bernadette Roberts from Alvaston library came into the BBC Radio Derby studios to talk about the imminent opening of a new library in Alvaston - but also to appeal for your memories of the old Carnegie Library.
They are in the process of putting together a book and an oral record, and will be holding two open days at Nunsfield house library on April 28th and May 2nd when they hope you'll go along and chat to them.
London Road in 1909
Likewise, Trish has been looking up Southgate Community Centre in the annals, and discovers that the current community centre was the original site of the Brighton road mixed school built in 1890.
The school became a boys school, while a girls school was built behind it in 1905 - that part now being occupied by St Martins School.
The headteacher, Phil Ormerod, was delighted as now he can plan his school centenary celebrations. (He'd seen 1905 etched on a drainpipe and rather hoped this was significant!)
If you went to Southgate school - boys or girls - we'd love to hear from you. Do give us a call on the Actiondesk line 01332 370707. Similarly if you have any Carnegie library memories, tell us as well as the librarians. Memories of old Alvaston welcome too...we're feeling nostalgic.
