| If you were listening to Mid-morning this Friday you'll have been behind the scenes at St Martin's special needs school, Alvaston where much of our Voices projects's been happening. |
You'll know by now that with lots of help from other people we've been making-over the grounds, re-stocking the library, injecting drama sessions, setting up a website and new logo, sorting out trips, getting cricket gear, and hearing regularly from both staff and kids.
BBC Radio Derby's Shane O'Connor hosted an outside broadcast which allowed us to wander about taking in everything from the head's office to the tuck shop, the dinner hall and assorted classrooms.
We were also able to be flies-on-the-wall at the final assembly for year 11 pupils, whose last day it was....and that assembly was made extra-special by a visit from Damon Hague.
As you know, he's the World Boxing Federation's Middle-Weight champ. He came to surprise Robert, one of the pupils, with a prize won in a competition he'd entered on BBC Radio Derby.
That prize was impressive: it was the kilt he wore for the championship fight. It made an upbeat end to our morning - and to the assembly.
