What will David Beckham do next?
David Beckham’s Major League Soccer season in America is over, after his team, Los Angeles Galaxy, failed to reach the play-offs 季后赛。

The former England captain has been struggling 与某事做斗争 with an ankle injury but came on 上场 for 32 minutes in the last game, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for LA Galaxy.

He will not play a competitive match again for his club until the MLS season begins again in April. This will be difficult for the 32-year-old, as he considers himself a hard worker, who does not like to be idle 无所事事的,懒散的。

"I'm a person who likes to train and work every day. I've never had more than three weeks off in the summer," said Beckham. "Three weeks off" means three weeks' holiday or rest.

"I'm not going to know what to do with myself. I'll be keeping on training and keeping fit no matter what," he added.

There have been rumours that Beckham might return to England for a loan spell 短期的借用 with a Premier League club, but he has denied this. However, he is hoping to get into the England squad 国家队 for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia in November.

England's chances of qualifying for the European Championships are in serious doubt after Russia’s win against them last week. Fans and England manager, Steve McLaren, are mystified 困惑不解 as to why their team did not win.

"I couldn't fault the players, there was nothing more I could ask of them. We had it in our grasp 手掌之中 and we ended up losing." He thinks that the team played to the best of their ability and it was possible to win the game, but they lost.

Fans are speculating 思索,猜测 that if Beckham had played in that game, the result could have gone their way 正如他们所期望的。

His inclusion in the team against Croatia in November may be irrelevant 不相关的 though, as England's hopes depend on Israel beating Russia on 17 November - a result that even the most optimistic 乐观的 fan does not expect.
