Tottenham players demand a penalty
Tottenham Hotspur remain a club in crisis after losing 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The game saw yet more controversial refereeing decisions 有争议的裁判决定 which saw Tottenham denied a penalty on two occasions.

Manchester defender Wes Brown appeared to handle the ball as he dived to clear a goal-bound strike 直奔球门的进攻 from Spurs’ (托特纳姆)热刺队的Dimitar Berbatov.

But the referee failed to award a penalty, causing Spurs manager Martin Jol to complain: "If you live in Manchester you say it hit his chest. If you live in the rest of England you say the decision has gone against us," meaning that the all neutrals 中间派 would call it a penalty.

He added that Wes Brown would have had to have been a "wizard 魔术师to get the ball out of the goal".

Just two minutes later Manchester’s Nani drilled home the winner 凯旋而归 from 25 yards with the ball taking the slightest of deflections 偏离的一球 off Carlos Tevez.

Manchester manager Sir Alex Ferguson praised Tottenham and said how seriously he took Tottenham Hotspur as opponents.

Ferguson said he knew it would be "a war of attrition" ”消耗战, meaning the two teams had to grind down 抵挡 each other’s resistance 反抗.

He added that there "was nothing in the second-half", meaning the two teams were evenly-matched 平起平坐 and there was no difference between them.

It was United’s first victory of the season and a much needed boost 补充;提升 to the team’s confidence

But it was another blow 打击 for Spurs who have made a poor start to the season despite spending millions on new players during the summer.

Martin Jol’s future at the club has been thrown into doubt 受到质疑 since the season began, with the club’s management holding talks with potential replacement managers 有可能充任替代的足球经理.

Will Jol remain with Tottenham?
