In addition, the nature of the injury 伤势 means they do not really know for definite how long it will take to heal 康复. Timescale means length of time so if there is no timescale, it means the length of time isn't known.

Not only is this bad news for Manchester United, it's also bad news for the England team. England still have five Euro 2008 qualifiers 资格赛 remaining, the first of those is coming up on 22nd August against Germany.

Former England captain 前英格兰队队长 Alan Shearer said, "It's really disappointing news. It was a nothing tackle 攻击力量并不大 to be honest. But it is devastating 致命的 news for England and Steve McClaren if he is going to be out for that amount of time."

"A nothing tackle" means it wasn't particularly aggressive 咄咄逼人的 so it's a surprise his injury is so serious. "Devastating news" means very upsetting and shocking news.

This is the third time an injury to Rooney's foot has caused major disruption 干扰. The first time was during the Euro 2004 competition and the second was in the run-up to 在…前夕的 England's performance in the World Cup in 2006.
