How to make the Olympic medal?
🚨 Ask an adult for help when using sharp objects 🚨
With the help of an adult, use a hole punch to create a hole at the top of your plastic lid. This hole is needed later so you can wear your medal.
Grab your string and begin cutting the string into pieces to create your 3D design for the front of the lid - this could be a number, letter or a shape.

Using your double-sided tape, stick the string onto the plastic lid.
TOP TIP - Practice on the table first so you know exactly how much string you need before sticking it down.

In a bowl, mix together one part glue to two parts water and stir until it is all combined.
Next, using your scissors, cut up the newspaper into small long strips.
Then, place the newspaper into the glue mixture and begin layering the newspaper onto the plastic lid over your design - this is paper mache. (This is the 3D part of the medal and makes it stand out)
TOP TIP - Don't be afraid to get messy! Use your fingers to get around the outside of the string shape to make it really stand out under the page.

Once your plastic lid is fully covered in newspaper wait for it to dry, this should only take a couple of hours. To speed up the process you could use a hairdryer, but make sure you get help from a grown up.

Once your lid is fully dry, it's time to get creative and decorate it! Medals are usually gold, silver or bronze, however, you can use whatever coloured paint you like.
After you have finished painting and decorating make sure you leave it to be completely dry.

When it's all dry, grab your ribbon and thread through the hole you hole punched earlier and tie the ends of the ribbon together so you can wear in around your neck.
Now for the fun part, wear your medal proudly! Or award to someone worthy 😉
