Walking boots and waterfalls

I hope you were able to enjoy the dry weather we had over the weekend. Saturday was the sunniest day with around 11 hours of sunshine recorded at St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan. Sunday was much cloudier but ideal for walking. Yesterday I visited the Brecon Beacons and did an 8 mile trek visiting the waterfalls, including the spectacular Sgwd yr Eira.

Sgwd yr Eira

The weather has changed again on Monday with rain clearing to sunshine and scattered showers. On Monday night a trough of low pressure will move east across Wales, this will boost the showers and some of them are likely to be heavy with a risk of hail, thunder and gusty winds.

Tuesday will bring a mixture of sunshine and showers. Again the showers could be heavy but most places should end-up dry in the afternoon. Top temperatures will range from 14 to 17°C with a moderate to fresh and cool north-westerly breeze. Tuesday night will be dry with clear spells. The wind will ease falling light inland with a few mist patches forming and it will turn chilly.

Wednesday will start dry and bright but it will cloud over from the west during the day with a little rain. The wind will pick-up again as well. On Thursday early rain will clear, followed by brighter skies and blustery showers.

Friday should be dry with sunny spells and the wind should ease. High pressure will arrive for the end of the week giving a fine and settled day on Saturday with light and variable winds.

The autumn equinox is on Wednesday and although it will feel cool at times this week it looks like temperatures will rise next week with some warm afternoons possibly reaching 21°C. At the moment, it looks like October will start fine and settled thanks to high pressure.
