This summer so far has been a little bit mixed. We've had some rain, heavy showers and a few thunderstorms but we've also had a fair amount of dry weather, plenty of sunshine and some high temperatures as well - exceeding 29°C in Porthmadog. This month, like June, has been warmer and sunnier than average and it's been drier than normal too, especially in south Wales.

But the weather pattern is about to change. The position of the jet stream is about to shift, moving further south and that means the weather will turn more unsettled for the start of August with low pressure bringing some rain and heavy showers. Temperatures will drop a little as well.

It looks like an umbrella will come in handy at the National Eisteddfod in Llanelli this weekend, but it should dry and brighten up later on Saturday. Sunday should be better with more in the way of dry weather and sunshine.
