South by South West: Austin, Texas 12-16 March 2008
Just a few bands from England

We could be writing for a very long time if we tried to tell you about every English act and what they’re up to in Austin this March, we could fill two posts about London bands alone, and if I run out of things to say next week I may wonder why I didn’t. Never mind, I think its best if I just pick out some of the finer moments planned for the week of March 12.
Van goes South (by Southwest)
Can you guess which Northern Irish act is set to open this year’s SXSW? He may not be an unsigned discovery as such but what better way to begin a celebration of music than with a performance from Mr. Morrison.
Showcase Scotland
Glasgow trio Frightened Rabbit lead the way from Scotland to this year’s Texan festivities. They bring their personal brand of indie-folk to Latitude 30” on Friday 14 March for the official Showcase Scotland event along with fellow Glaswegian folksters Make Model, Scotland’s self-proclaimed “Biggest and best new band” Dykeenies, Jyrojets and all the way from Stornoway, Our Lunar Activities.

Departure lounge
It seems the BBC team won’t go lonely on its flight out to Austin. Departure lounges across the UK will soon begin to fill with skinny jeans and guitar cases as indie upstarts jet off in hope of discovery.
Twitter and the Pandas
It’s not even March yet and already our blogging friends from across the net are getting excited about this year’s festival. Showcase announcements and the perilous wristband lottery are still high on most agendas but one or two have found to pick out a few bands and do a little research.
BBC Introducing Showcase
The BBC Introducing team will be making their way out to Austin on Thursday March 13 for a special showcase hosted by Steve Lamacq. Steve has picked out five of his favourite new bands from the UK and US for the night, and brings 6 Music listeners the best moments on his show, which comes live from SXSW on March 14.
