Twitter and the Pandas
It’s not even March yet and already our blogging friends from across the net are getting excited about this year’s festival. Showcase announcements and the perilous wristband lottery are still high on most agendas but one or two have found to pick out a few bands and do a little research.
SXSW Baby! Have been busy organising their Tweeps, an if you’re planning to join the Twitter revolution this March a visit to their blog is as good a starting point as any.
Donewaiting is more excited about the return of The Breeders, along with the likes of SMD, Two Gallants and Yeasayer at the Mess With Texas showcase on March 15, while Gorilla vs Bear is getting slightly hot under the collar about disco lover San Serac and the opportunity to catch him at The Whiskey Bar on the same day.
Paste Magazine on the other hand has gone all scientific. They’ve spent the past week crunching numbers and can now give us definitive results on the rise in the use of the words Wolf, Panda and Water in band names, as well as a graphically representation of SXSW 2008 artist’s hometown. Read their full results here.
With almost 1,600 acts playing the main festival listings for the day shows will be very important to get hold of. If you can't catch someone in the evening you may get to see them during the day. The Geographical breakdown in the Paste article was just silly if you ask me.
