This week on EastEnders: Life goes on...
RIP Bradley

Oh dear as Mo rolls home from her holidays in a sombrero... Might want to ditch that happy holiday feeling toot sweet. The grief was palpable. Flowers at the Vic, Stacey's little tear-stained face, her disappearance, err Max feverishly polishing a pair of Brad's brogues and the allegation that Bradley was Archie's killer. Well... anyone who still thinks that obviously didn't watch the live episode. Marsden didn't look too convinced anyway...
And on a related note, ill-advised come-on of the week: Ronnie speculating that the upshot of Bradley's gruesome death might be that she and Jack could have another smooch. Err... he was Jack's nephew, Ron, you might want to show a bit of compassion if you fancy a bit of the other. Tut tut.
Meanwhile, Nurse Christian to the rescue!

Oooh don't you just love it when Christian comes over all masterful - hugging grieving Syed, taking control of Zainab's labour. Understandably, Zainab didn't want her son's illicit lover having anything to do with her labour. She wanted Mas... and Amira. Err... are you sure, Zee!? Unfortunately Amira was embroiled in a split-end emergency and arrived one hot-oil treatment later after the baby was born... on the floor of the Masala unit. I nearly cried when the baby was born and it wouldn't breathe. Thankfully, Masood brought the tiny tot to life, via Christian via the emergency services. Little baby Kamil seemed to have brought Zainab and Mas closer together than ever. But not for long...
Post - natal depression

POST-natal depression. Cos Masood is a postman. Get it? Mmm hilarious. No sooner had Minty polished off the baby buffet, then the Royal Mail investigation squad were in the Masood sitting room accusing Mas of pilfering post. He temporarily convinced Zee that he was innocent... with the much-worse revelation that he'd been gambling... again. Things don't look good for the new parents. "The brown stuff just hit the big whirly thing," as Tamwar put it. Oh dear.
Meanwhile, a spot of Auntie-natal depression (durr see what we've done there as well) for Amira who was caught necking contraceptive pills by Syed who then went on a rather hypocritical rant about trust and the meaning of marriage. Looked in the mirror lately, Syed? Or were you too busy snuggling up to Christian at Brad's floral display? Anyway, they kissed, made up and she chucked the pills in the bin. Move over Kamil, George and Amy, there may be a new baby in town soon!
And finally... what we learned this week

I am not surprised that this has gone down badly with the public.Who's idea was it to heap more misery on the viewers.
Any animal lover (including myself) is rightly outraged at showing or even suggesting animal cruelty.I couldn't watch on Thursday night.
I bet it was the same group of writers that decided that Bradley and Stacey couldn't possibly have a nice ending to their love story, even Bradley going down for Archie's murder, and possibly returning at some point in the future would have been better than this.
What is the point of either Lucas's or becca's characters.Lucas is pure EVIL and nobody so supposedly god fearing would commit such attrocities when he knew that Jordan loved his Mum and then he was helped by getting sugar when she died.Sugar remember was Syd,then Bradley's dog.SO CRUEL and unnecessary.
Becca is a dangerous nasty and unhinged character. She wasn't needed and anybody would tell her to sling her hook, the way she behaved in the Slater household, the lack of respect at the chapel of rest towards Bradley, and the way she bosses everyone about and even conned Jean out of all her earnings. Please tell me that she is leaving VERY soon.
Diederick Santer has ruined Eastenders compared to how it used to be.

IT'S A DRAMA. They tackle storylines like that, Lucas is there because he's the dad of Chelsea and it's already been explained why Lucas is doing those things. Becca was Stacey's friend while in hospital, I don't like the character either but I know why she's there.
Yes animal cruelty is bad, but they've way more controversial storylines. Diederick Santer has not ruined Eastenders.

I know IT'S A DRAMA.Do we need constant drama after drama all the time though. We have just seen the conclusion of a murder storyline and the death of a favourite character.
Lucas may be Chelsea's dad, but there can be no excuse for portraying a character that deals with situations by killing every time he feels threatened.
Trina was a threat to him and Denise,so he threatens and eventually causes her death.Owen threatened to expose him for the fraud he is,so because Lucas couldn't persuade Owen to leave, he strangles him with his tie. People don't deal with situations in that way.
The dog was a threat because it was aware that something was buried under Trina's tree, and Lucas decided that in order to protect his crimes,he would kill Sugar, despite knowing what it would do to Jordan. No father would put his son through that.
Becca was Stacey's friend in hospital, and yes i accept that, but a family wouldn't take in a stranger with a mental history.
You know why she's there, well maybe you can enlighten me.She's there to stir up trouble, seduce Max and take over Stacey's life.
Animal cruelty in this country is high as it is,and it is irresponsible to show this, especially as children watch EastEnders at this time.
Yes they have had all sorts of controversial storylines over the past 25 years, but it is not being portrayed realistically. No community whether large or small would have this constant amount of murders and misery all the time.
I love Eastenders and have watched it since the first episode, but i feel at the moment the current storylines are too dramatic.
We used to see a more family orientated side to Eastenders, but now it tends to focus on the Mitchells problems too much.
I maybe was a little hasty in saying that Diederick Santer ruined Eastenders, but there have been some bad storylines and outcomes.
The viewing figures are not as high as in the past either.
16 million watched the live episode, yet Den and Angie pulled in almost double that figure.

The hospital scene with Max and the shoes and with Stacey kissing Bradley were so well acted and written it was almost to painful to watch. Easties just keeps getting better and better. And if there is any justice will win every gong going this year. And Diederick Santer in my opinion has been the best exec producer since the late Julia Smith. He has done an amazing job and will be sorely missed. Comparing Angie and Den and the Christmas ep pulling in 30 million compared with 17 million for the live ep isn't fair. In the 80's you had only 4 tv channels, tody you have over 104. No programme will again get 30 million viewers, so this comparision is irrelevant.

Yes i agree your point about the tv channels in the 80's,and there have been some very good storylines from Diederick Santer and the writers.
It has been very emotional, and at times brilliant too,but my point is that there are too many constantly dramatic and sad storylines.there never seems to be any heartwarming endings to them.
Life is difficult and unpredictable, but there are some glimmers of hope and happiness as well.
There are so many characters on EastEnders now that at times it's very hard to keep up with them all.
Eastenders had more than it's fair share of drama in the 80's and even 90's, but there were some happy storylines too.
It is not just EastEnders that are guilty of this. All the soaps are the same.
yes we want drama and excitement to take us away from our own normal every day lives, but surely a nice heartwarming outcome and storyline is not too much to ask.
EastEnders ratings have gone down.It was in the paper.I will always watch it though no matter what.
I thought it was Bradley( Charlie Clements) lying in the morgue. Was it not?
Incidentally, where are all the animals in eastenders these days?
Chips,Terrence,Albert and Betty have not been seen on screen for weeks now.
Good luck to Diederick Santer in whatever his next job is.

Eastenders is still family-orientated though all the current storylines centre on families - "Who Killed Archie" focused mainly on the Mitchell's Lucas's story will effect his family when the truth comes out. "Chryed" is focussed on the Masoods and Lucy's upcoming story will centre on the Beales.
In regards to Bradley. The character had come full circle he was back with Stacey albeit not for long he and had made up with Max. His death was in my view was the natural end to his story. The writers choose the more interesting way to tell the story Bradley dying has more profound effects on the characters involved with him Stacey has lost the love of her life Max had lost the son he abandoned and finally found. More interesting than "Oh Bradley's in jail better visit him".
The stories have to be dramatic because simply the audience need to be kept interested in the characters and their journeys on the show.

They maybe should have left his character with Syd and Noah in Canada.
There has been so many tragedies in Eastenders, and murders.Killing off a character is not always the best outcome.
Yes it is still about families and always will be, but no family has as much bad luck and doom as Walford does.
It was lovely to see Bradley and Stacey reunited albeit briefly, but too sad at the end. They could have made Bradley run away on his own,and be vindicated of the murder.
The Masood family are the only funny family in EastEnders.Zainab is hilarious. The Masoods are great characters. They always make me laugh.
Why did Bradley and Stacey's journey have to end so tragically. The audience were kept interested and wanted to see Bradley and Stacey together and happy. Now Stacey is pregnant and alone.
Sonia and martin left with Rebecca in the famous taxi they all seem to leave in.That was a happy ending to their journey wasn't it.

Thats what we Brit's love seeing someone having a miserable horrid time, it makes our lives the more bearable. As for the ratings officially BARB have stated Eastenders was the most watched programme in January 2010 beating Corrie. And as we have said in previous threads although Easties is down in rating terms from say 1985, the ratings are infact higher than two years ago and are still rising. Also more importantly audience share has risen. But hey we would go on and on with figures. And how accurate are these ratings? Thats another thread coming i feel. Anyway the main thing is Easties is in great shape at present and is easily the best continuing drama on British tv. P.S its not a soap. Its far too good to be that. Also NEVER EVER believe what you read in the tabloids! Another great continuing Drama on the Beeb is Radio 4's The Archers, if you don't listen, give it ago, you will be hooked. Amazing characters and there is sometimes a happy ending. Anyway keep watching!! :-)

I know what you mean aljen41, I want Bradley and Stacey to have been happy forever and it broke my heart so much I actually wanted to cry through the entire live episode, just knowing what was around the corner for them. Thing is, I love the fact that Bradley had a huge dramatic bow-out because he was an amazing actor (Charlie, that is) and such a lovable character. For him to drift off into a happy life somewhere else.. well... in real life, that would be nice, but for me it would be a disservice to the strength of character that he was
so I'm glad that there was a huge explosion of feeling at his exit. because that way, i was reminded just what an amazing character he was. this week, the sadness hung heavy over the entire show. hannah, i thought that the moment where stacey pulled away from bradley was really emotional too. just seems a fitting tribute all round
oh no, someone's going to shout at me that it's not real life and just a show etc etc now aren't they??
