A round-up of BBC announcements and press releases and blogs, plus some highlights from our TV, radio and online output this week.
Awards
On Tuesday (8 March) The Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards were presented at a ceremony in London. BBC programmes or people took home prizes in 12 of the 17 categories, and they are all listed in this blog.
BBC programmes also collected nine Broadcasting Guild Press Awards at the ceremony on Friday (11 March).
Announcements & Blogs
Speaking at an event hosted by Director-General Tony Hall on Monday, Charlotte Moore shared her vision in her new role as controller of TV channels and iPlayer and talked about how she sees the channels working together now and in the future.
In addition Easter religious programmes across TV and radio were outlined, as well as programming to mark the centenary of key 1916 WWI battles Jutland and The Somme.
On Tuesday BBC Young Musician 2016 announced their line-up of presenters and judges and in other Music news, on Wednesday the BBC SSO's new Chief Conductor launched 2016/17 season.
On Tuesday it was also announced that an audience debate will kick off the BBC's Scotland 2016 Election coverage.
On Wednesday John Craven, Jules Hudson, Keeley Donovan and Paul Martin were confirmed to present BBC One’s Countryfile Diaries this spring.
The details of the first Asian Network Live - the network’s inaugural music event taking place at Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London, on Saturday 30 April, 7-11pm were revealed this week too.
Also on Wednesday BBC Studios appointed Chris Sussman as new Head Of Comedy and BBC Four revealed it has commissioned a new series called Going Forward with Jo Brand.
More Comedy news followed on Thursday as the BBC announced a new season celebrating the sitcom.
Thursday also saw the launch of BBC Radio 2 Radio Country pop up digital station. Head of Music at Radio 2 and 6Music, Jeff Smith blogged about the service and the diversity of BBC Radio 2. Another pop up DAB station was also announced this week. In mid-April BBC Radio 2 50's will play it's part in BBC Music: My Generation, a year long season that intends to chart the history of pop music from the 1950's to the 1990's through the memories of those who were there.
Now in it's 10th year, BBC News School Report gave young people the chance to present the news that matters to them. On Thursday, over 30,000 pupils from 1,000 schools from across the UK took part.
On Friday BBC Four announced a brand new interpretation of Romeo And Juliet with disabled actors in lead roles as part of the BBC Shakespeare Festival. Redefining Juliet will follow creative director and wheelchair user Storme Toolis through the rehearsal process to performance at the Barbican of a unique re-telling of Romeo And Juliet using a diverse group of actors.
Broadcast Highlights
BBC One aired Frontline Doctors: Winter Migrant Crisis. Where twin brothers, doctors and part-time aid workers Chris and Xand van Tulleken went to see for themselves what conditions are like for migrants fleeing through Europe at the height of winter.
On Tuesday BBC Radio 3 celebrated International Women's Day broadcasting 24 hours dedicated to female composers.
Commemorating 20 years since the deadliest firearms atrocity in the UK to date, the documentary Dunblane: Our Story featured interviews with many people who have never before talked on camera about what happened on that day.
