Dinner for One

In Germany, '

An old black and white British TV sketch called Dinner for One has become a national institution in Germany.

It is broadcast every New Year’s Eve – Silvester.

The sketch is known as Der 90. Geburtstag in German.

It is about an old woman who's unable to celebrate her 90th birthday with her friends, as they have all died.

Unbeknownst to her, her butler plays the role of all her friends with hilarious consequences.

Although largely forgotten in the UK, the comedy sketch has now become the most repeated TV programme ever because of the Germans' fondness for it.
