Films and TV
When you discuss films and television, it's useful to know the German words for different types of programmes and film categories. Many of them are easy to recognise as they are very similar to the English – these are known as A word that is related to a word in another language. A cognate looks or sounds similar to a word in another language and also has the same meaning, eg Name (German) and name (English); Nord (German) and north (English); Computer (German) and computer (English)..
