Using different tenses

One way to add detail to your writing is to include a range of tenses, which include the present, perfect or future tense.

For example, you could write about where you currently live, where you used to live and where you hope to live in the future.

Note if the sentences below are in the present, perfect or future tense. Remember to translate the sentences too.

Ich habe in einem Bungalow gewohnt.
Er wird in einem Doppelhaus wohnen.
Wir wohnen seit Jahren auf dem Land.
Sie hat früher in einer Wohnung in der Stadt gewohnt.
Hast du schon an der Küste gewohnt?
Sie werden in einem großen Einfamilienhaus wohnen.
Ich wohne jetzt in einem kleinen Reihenhaus in einer großen Stadt.
Sie wird in einer modernen Wohnung in Berlin wohnen.

Conditional tense

The forms ich würde, ich möchte and ich wäre are examples of the conditional tense.

The conditional tense is used to say what might happen under certain conditions. It is called the conditional tense as it is dependent on a certain condition, eg you can only fulfil one thing on the condition that another thing happens.

They are all good verbs to include when answering the following question:

Wo möchtest du wohnen? Warum? - Where would you like to live? Why?
