Bid for Next store rejected again

Restrictions blocking the Next store have not been lifted
A bid to drop restrictions to allow a new Next clothing store to open in Dumfries has been rejected again.

British Land, which owns the site at Cuckoo Bridge, wanted to lift a block on the sale of "non bulky" goods.

For the second time councillors refused the application on the grounds that it would be detrimental to the viability of shops in the town centre.

The company had claimed the store could create 70 jobs and would not have any impact on its current town centre site.

It was the third time in total the plans had come forward - once being withdrawn before they could be discussed by councillors.
