Town centre future on the agenda
Greyfriars Kirk
The urban design strategy is on display in Greyfriars Kirk
A blueprint for the way Dumfries town centre could develop has been put up for public discussion.

The urban strategy, which looks at a number of key areas for the town, is on display in Greyfriars Kirk.

Among the prime targets for development are the three focal points at Burns Statue, Queensberry Square and around the fountain in the High Street.

Dock Park, Midsteeple and Greyfriars itself are also part of the exhibition, which runs until 26 February.

Among the plans outlined are moves to create new tennis courts and a multi-use games area next to a modern pavilion in the Dock Park on the banks of the River Nith.

Bus stances could also be removed from next to Burns Statue while an improved civic space in Queensberry Square is also on the agenda.

The display includes the suggestion of a "flexible events space" around the fountain in the town's High Street.

The exhibition comes after several calls for extra funding to be found to help regenerate the town centre in Dumfries.
