The retail park plans have been put back on the table |
A bid for a new Next clothing store on the outskirts of Dumfries has been resubmitted to councillors. The application at the Cuckoo Bridge retail park was dropped before it could be discussed by the area regulatory committee in May.
Next wants to establish a store on the site which it claims would bring 70 new jobs to the town.
The owners of the site are applying to lift a trading restriction which would allow the development to go ahead.
Planning officers had previously recommended refusal but the application was withdrawn before it could be discussed.
The site at Cuckoo Bridge earmarked for the Next store is owned by British Land.
Store pledge
It is seeking the removal of a planning condition which affects all seven units on the retail park.
It prevents the sale of non-bulky goods, such as clothing and footwear.
Next has pledged to continue to operate its town centre store based in the Loreburne shopping complex.
Council planning officials have warned, however, that relaxing trading restrictions could hit town centre trade and set an adverse precedent.
They are again recommending that councillors refuse permission to lift the trading restriction.
