Clothing store proposal rejected

A revised bid for the Dumfries clothing store is set to be made
A bid on behalf of clothing giants Next to overturn trading restrictions at a Dumfries retail park to develop a new store has been rejected.

The owners of the Cuckoo Bridge estate - British Land - wanted to abolish a trading ban on the sale of "non-bulky" goods such as clothes and shoes.

The company said the new store could bring 70 jobs to the town.

However, councillors rejected the plans on the grounds that it would undermine town centre regeneration.

British Land is expected to come back with a revised bid to allow the store to open.
