School futures taking step nearer

The fate of six Aberdeen primary schools and a nursery is set to take a step closer to being decided.

Councillors could accept a recommendation that they should be closed or merged.

However, it is thought almost certain any vote by the education committee on Tuesday would be put to a meeting of the full council on Wednesday.

Aberdeen City Council has said it needed to close the schools because of falling pupil numbers.

It said it wanted to spend money educating pupils instead of maintaining ageing buildings.
