Teenager Aidan McPherson had not been seen since Hogmanay
A body found on a river bank has been identified as that of missing Elgin teenager Aidan McPherson.
A dog walker made the discovery at about 1500 BST on Sunday, beside the River Lossie near Lossiemouth in Moray.
A Grampian Police spokesperson said the body had now been identified as Mr McPherson and expressed condolences to his relatives.
The 19-year-old was last seen at about 2300 GMT on 31 December in the Newmill Road area of Elgin.
Det Ch Insp Malcolm Stewart said: "These are very sad circumstances and our sympathy and thoughts are with Aidan's family at this distressing time.
"Inquiries are ongoing to ascertain the cause of death and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course."
He added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the various agencies and volunteers who assisted with the search."
In January, police divers searched the River Lossie near Elgin as part of the bid to find the teenager.
