Mr Trump believes he can create the world's best golf course |
Campaigners fighting to stop US tycoon Donald Trump's golf resort in Aberdeenshire have discussed the plans with First Minister Alex Salmond. Councillors will meet next month to decide if the 1bn complex on the Menie Estate at Balmedie should go ahead.
Protesters arranged to meet Mr Salmond as he is their local MP.
They claim Mr Trump is more interested in selling homes than golf. He said he believed the development would be good for golf, tourism and the environment.
The Trump International Links will feature two championship golf courses alongside 950 holiday homes and 36 golf villas if it is approved.
'Dinner with Donald'
Mickey Foote, a spokesman for the protest group Sustainable Aberdeenshire, said he remained concerned about the impact the project could have on what is an environmentally-sensitive coastal area.
Mr Foote added: "We are meeting Alex to ask him to stop Donald before he trumps all over the dunes.
"It is an opportunity to meet with him following his dinner with Donald in New York to make sure that he is aware of the concerns of local people, on the environmental issues in particular.
"Is this what Aberdeenshire really needs, or is it what Mr Trump really wants?"
