The proposals are being considered by Aberdeenshire Council |
A leading golf course architect has been appointed to design billionaire Donald Trump's development at Balmedie. Dr Martin Hawtree, whose organisation was involved in work at several Open Championship courses, has been commissioned for the project.
Dr Hawtree said he was committed to a design which would be in keeping with the Menie sand dunes environment.
The plans, which have been opposed by conservation groups, have yet to be approved by Aberdeenshire Council.
Dr Hawtree, from Woodstock, in Oxfordshire, has worked on courses including Royal Birkdale, Portmarnock and Carnoustie.
'World's best'
Mr Trump said: "Martin Hawtree brings a distinct vision and flair to every course he touches.
"His work is impeccable. He and I share such a passion for links golf and the tradition of the game is evident in the golf courses he designs.
"This piece of land is so special and my relationship with Scotland is so special that I wanted to work with the world's best links course architect to deliver Trump International Golf Links, Scotland."
Proposals for the course were amended following initial objections by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH).
However, SNH has since written to Aberdeenshire Council stating that it would continue to object because of a potential threat to wildlife.
